I worked and work as an Assistant Director and as Revival Director of opera. It’s something that helps me pay my bills and brings me a lot of satisfaction, as I believe I can learn, personally and professionally, a lot with each new project, with each new team I collaborate with. I like the idea of constant learning. At the same time, my concerns, my search for an own artistic language make me want to stage my own productions. For a long time, I didn’t dare to pursue this further, but I think the time has come to do so.

I have had some few opportunities to create my own productions and, when I’ve done so, it has always been within a context of great limitations in terms of money, skills and time. Despite this, I think to have found an accessible language, thus not simply illustrative; a language that aims to communicate emotionally with the public, but also to stimulate reflection on what I consider essential in each staged work, taking into account the audience for which it’s performed.

Below, I will describe a little bit the circumstances, the dramaturgy, the intentions and the limitations of four operas that I’ve staged. The first two were made for the San Luís Potosí Opera Festival in Mexico and the last two in Schaffhausen in Switzerland.
